Mask

This piece was created from observations of the recent (last few years) resurgence and popularization of mask culture in America. The usage of masks has evolved from practical to symbolic and stylistic. Ski masks, in particular, have become a bit of a staple in the street-wear community, a symbol of mystique and danger worn by people all over on a day-to-day basis. You can find examples of this all over social media. This became immensely popular due to creatives becoming stylistic problem solvers to create a tough and sleek way to stay safe during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, along with masking policies. I happened to come across a video on TikTok in 2021 of a man in his car casually chilling with a ski mask that he'd just rolled up on his head before moving his tattooed hand over his face. I thought it was kind of funny in a redundant way, but it sparked my creative interest nonetheless, and thus, I created "Mask."
